🔍 What is Rag exactly?

RAG means Retrieval increased generation . Clearly, this allows the IA avatar to formulate its answers by relying on the documents you have added to your course. Rather than inventing a generic response, AI will first seek in your own content : PDFS, texts, business resources, etc.

And as always on complement, transparency is in order : AI indicates the source used to build his answer, so that the learner can dig the subject if he wishes.

🧪 How does it work in Complement?

When you import additional documents in your module (PDF support, reference text, link of a reliable site, etc.), they are indexed.

If you choose to activate the RAG , then these resources become the reference base used by AI to answer students' questions.

A simple check box in the creation interface… and it is in place.

The learner can always consult the documents independently, but with the RAG, he benefits in addition from an AI tutor capable of drawing contextualized and precise answers .

✅ When is it useful?

The RAG becomes particularly interesting in some cases:

When you deal with a specific, technical or sensitive subject , when there are obscure acronyms, when internet research does not give consensus on a subject: when it is important that AI responses are 100 % aligned with your content and not with what is said online.

This is for example ideal for internal training (security, procedures, corporate policy) or sharp content (regulatory, finance, legal, health, etc.).

⚠️ And when not activating it?

For more general or theoretical training, or if you do not have documents to provide, AI works very well without RAG. The avatar will provide a fluid, fast, and often sufficient answer for simple questions.

Activating the RAG in these cases can slightly extend the response times, without real benefit.
